Mid-South restaurants and beverage distributors joined forces Sunday to raise money for education.

The annual Italian Winterfest benefits the Catholic Education Scholarship Fund and Ave Maria Home.

The event began in 2010 when a group of Italian restaurant owners recruited other restaurants and wine distributors to hold a tasting to raise scholarship money.

"We have the best Italian restaurants and the best non-Italian restaurants that we could ever dream to have and they all came together in the name of this charity," said event co-founder Tony Barrasso.

This year's Winterfest was held in honor of event co-founder Sam Bomarito of Pete and Sam's Restaurant.

Mr. Bomarito passed away last year.
