Scam on Facebook steals debit card numbers

Scam on Facebook steals debit card numbers

(WMC-TV) - My good friends at the Better Business Bureau and FraudAvengers are begging you. They're pleading with you.

Don't fall for a debit card discount offer on Facebook.

Both watchdog groups have warned us about an unsolicited offer on Facebook pages. The offer:  20 percent cash back if people link their debit cards to their Facebook pages.

I know, I know. Sounds insane, right?

Filing a consumer complaint the "wise" way

(WMC-TV) - I'm the court of last resort.

If you have a consumer complaint, you should be coming to me last. So many viewers with consumer issues hit me up first without nary a phone call to the business or service provider.

Sometimes, a phone call is all it takes.

Other times, it takes a checklist.

New vending machines put stop to unhealthy snacks

(WMC-TV) –  One vending machine company is doing its part to tackle the problem of obesity.  Fresh Healthy Vending Café is giving businesses in the Mid-South the opportunity to offer healthier snacks in their facility. Amy Israel and William Pollack have purchased the healthy vending franchise and are in the process of selecting locations in the Memphis area for the machines.

This vending company started in 2010 and is based out of San Diego. Fresh Healthy Vending is recreating the idea of a typical vending machine by filling them with healthy, natural and organic food and beverage options. They call it the “future of vending.”

Local salons battle in "hair wars" for a good cause

(WMC-TV) –  Is your salon “pet friendly?” Salons across Memphis will compete in a competition to see which business is pet friendly and who can raise the most money for a good cause.

Mid-South Spay and Neuter Services is raising funds for its non-profit clinic with a “hair ware” promotion for local hair salons.

The safest "wave" to pay with your smart phone

(WMC-TV) - The credit industry calls them "contactless transactions."

I call them "wave" payments. Payments made either with a credit card or a smart phone by simply "waving" the card or phone over a payment terminal. The terminal detects a chip or app that relays payment information via radio frequency.

East Memphis Whole Foods plans to move

East Memphis Whole Foods plans to move

(WMC-TV) - Whole Foods is moving its only store in the Memphis area, according to The Memphis Business Journal.

But lovers of organic food and healthy eating shouldn't worry. The grocery store is only moving a few feet to the south. The store will take over the building currently occupied by Office Depot.

According to the MBJ:

The new Whole Foods will be 60 percent larger. Its current store is about 25,000 square feet and its new one will be about 40,000 square feet.

And not only will shoppers get a bigger store, they'll also get more parking space. The current Whole Foods building will be demolished and turned into a parking lot, the MBJ reports.

According to a statement from Office Depot, the store will remain open until a new location is found.
