Wine deliveries bill passes in Tennessee

Wine deliveries bill passes in Tennessee

A Tennessee bill that would allow wine to be shipped to every home in the state is now up to the Governor.

The bill allows direct wine shipments from retailers to consumers -- even in cities that currently only allow liquor-by-the-drink sales.

Governor Bill Haslam is expected to sign the bill.

Music raises money for farmers market

Music raises money for farmers market

University of Memphis anthropology, city and regional, and honors students will be hosting a concert to benefit the recently-launched South Memphis Farmers Market and GrowMemphis on Friday, April 15, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Rose Theatre. Five campus and community bands playing hip-hop, techno rock, reggae and roots music will be performing at this student organized event.

While admission to the event is free, concert goers will be asked to make a voluntary donation to support local efforts to expand access to healthy and locally grown food for residents of the city’s most economically-challenged neighborhoods. Currently, many of the city’s older residential neighborhoods do not have full service supermarkets. In these communities, residents without cars find it extremely difficult to purchase the foods needed to provide nutritionally balanced meals for their families.
