St. Agnes Academy student to attend Presidential Inauguration

St. Agnes Academy sophomore, Molly Coffey, has been selected by the National Youth Leadership Forum to attend the Presidential Inauguration on January 19 in Washington, D.C.

Along with a handful of other talented students from across the country, Molly will attend the inauguration and a five day High School Presidential Inaugural Conference.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the trip to our nation’s capital will be seeing the President take the oath of office for a second term, however, the five day trip will also include many other notable moments.

Molly and her group will meet representative from the College Democrats and College Republicans of America.

There will be a special keynote addresses from former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and four star general, Wesley Clark.

The students will also learn about the tactics and strategies used to run a successful political campaign, the many roles of the President.

Duck Dynasty star to speak in Memphis

Duck Dynasty star to speak in Memphis

One of the stars of the cable TV show Duck Dynasty is coming to Memphis. Phil Robertson will speak at this year's Re:FUEL Memphis event. This is the fourth year for the men's conference. 

Robertson founded  the Duck Commander Company in 1973.  The company makes duck calls, and Robertson's family makes for great TV.  If you've seen the show, you know each episode ends with a prayer as Phil and his family gather around a  table.  

Robertson attributes the success of his company and his life to his passion for God and duck hunting.  

Robertson will tell his story at the Re:FUEL conference in April.

Lifelong Tiger fan passes away

The University of Memphis Tigers are mourning the death of lifelong fan.

David Toombs has passed away.

In a letter from the Memphis Rebounders Club, Big Dave, as he was called, will be remembered as one of the all time great Tiger Fans.

He was a perpetual student who sat in the student section for more than 20 years, leading the crowds in chants against the visiting team.

It's a new year and perhaps you made a resolution to be more active in your community. Here's a great opportunity to bring your voice to the table:

The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) will be engaging the community in a comprehensive planning process over the next 12-18 months to help identify health issues most important to our county and develop strategies to address these concerns.  Through a process called MAPP, Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships, community members will be invited to participate in various stages of the strategic planning.  Hundreds of communities in the United States have or are currently engaged in this process.
