Police: Car thief fires shot at victim | Crime
(WMC-TV) - Police were caught on camera walking through a Memphis home as they searched for a car thief early Friday morning.
It's an experience no one wants to have, armed police officers banging on your door and then marching through your house because a criminal could be in your back yard.
Memphis police say someone tried unsuccessfully to steal a car in the 3300 block of Starsdale late Thursday night.
But the crook didn't give up after his first try.
He apparently came back later, but the car owner noticed him and followed him as he stole the car.
At one point, the suspect backed into the victim's other vehicle and then fired a gunshot.
No one was hurt, but police warn that victims should never follow a suspected criminal.
The suspect eventually ditched the car a few miles away on Flamingo and ran into someone's backyard.
Police entered the home with their guns drawn and tried to sneak up on the crook in the backyard. The person who lives at the house shot iPhone video of the officers as they tried to catch the suspect.
However, officers weren't able to catch the car thief.
If you know anything about this suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
