Alleged attacker to victim: “You brought a knife to a gun fight”

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis man is in jail after police say he barged into his ex-girlfriend’s house and pointed a gun at her current suitor.

Marquette Ratliff broke into the home in the 3900 block of Gavick Cove just before 5 a.m. Saturday, according to court records. The 27-year-old allegedly pointed a handgun at his former girlfriend’s current boyfriend. Investigators say the man armed himself with a bottle, but Ratliff seemed unfazed.

“You brought a knife to a gunfight,” Ratliff allegedly told the male victim.

Eventually, according to the police report, Ratliff forced the other man out of the house, leaving him alone with his former girlfriend.

Police officers entered the house when they arrived on the scene and arrested Ratilff without incident.

Ratliff, a convicted felon, has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, vandalism and is also facing weapons charges.
