University of Memphis to observe 'Earth Day'

The University of Memphis will hold its 2013 Earth Day event Thursday, April 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.on campus at the Oasis garden. The garden is next to the campus police station, east of the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

"The event is hosted by the University of Memphis TIGUrS (Tiger Initiative for Gardening in Urban Settings), and it will have so many awesome features," said U of M Publications Writer Laura Fenton. "There will be local earth-friendly businesses and parks with booths, give-aways, 'zero-waste,' zumba and tai chi group classes, etc."

Art Exhibition and sale benefiting the children of Le Bonheur

The Annuniciation Greek Orthodox Church is hosting an Art Suitable for Framing Exhibition and Sale on April 6, 2013. It'll be from 4-9pm at 573 North Highland Drive in Memphis at the Greek Orthodox Church. "It's Greek to Me" cookbook will also be onsale. Admission is $15. There will be music, a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres. Gallery Space is available too.

Radio station celebrates 10 years

Mid-South gospel radio station 95.7 Hallelujah FM is celebrating 10 years on the air this year.

They're kicking off the anniversary with a family fun day at Golf & Games Family Park, 5484 Summer Avenue, on Saturday, March 30.

For $9.57, you get four go-kart rides, as well as unlimited boats, miniature golf and $2.50 to spend in the game room. The event starts at 11:00 a.m.

Pink Palace extends hour for one night

Many can have thier own night at the museum Tuesday, April 2 when the Pink Palace stays open late.

What's even better is anyone can take advantage of this for free.The museum normally closes at 5 p.m. That night they will be staying open until 7:30 p.m.

As you browse through the museum you can enjoy cultural and natural science exhibits as well as the new traveling exhibit, Weavers of the Earth: Native American Baskets.

As a special treat, everyone staying late at the Pink Palace can take part in Family Nano Science Night which includes a scavenger hunt and hands-on activities that teach basic Nano concepts.
