‘Memphis Rocks' campaign to help fund MPD Fallen Officer Memorial | Community Spirit

It's the home of the blues, the birthplace of rock 'n' roll, but Memphis rocks in more ways than one — according to the "Memphis Rocks" campaign video on YouTube.

Now, Memphians can create their own videos offering reasons why they think Memphis rocks, and support a memorial project for fallen officers.

All funds from the On Location: MEMPHIS International Film and Music Festival $25 submission fee will be donated to the MPD Fallen Officer Memorial.

According to director of the Lipscomb Pitts Breakfast Club Jeremy Park, Memphis is one of the few cities without a memorial to honor fallen officers.

The memorial is a $1 million privately funded project that honors the 61 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and the family and friends they left behind.

“The ‘Memphis Rocks’ category is an outgrowth of the civic pride campaign that’s designed to give back and support the Memphis Police Department Fallen Officer Memorial,” said Park.

As  far as the film festival goes, winning videos will be shown at the 14th Annual Memphis International Film and Music Festival on April 25 to 28. The new category is part of a partnership between On Location: MEMPHIS and the Lipscomb Pitts Breakfast Club.

“The overall ‘Memphis Rocks’ campaign has a mission of promoting all the positives of Memphis, and we’re looking forward to viewing the films and different perspectives on what makes our city so special. Films submitted in the festival’s new category are another outlet for Memphians to share their thoughts and stories and to help us showcase the true heartbeat of our city,” said Park.

The deadline for submissions is February 28. Submissions should be entered online at the film festival’s website here.
