FedEx Express wins national award | Business

(WMC-TV) - Fedex Express has been chosen a Silver winner in Air Transport World's inaugural ATW 2012 Eco-Aviation awards.

The ATW team of Editors who chose Fedex Express for the award cited many efforts the company has been involved in. The company's EarthSmart program aims to find or create new ways not only to improve its own environmental performance, but also to point the way for other companies in the aviation and logistics industires.

FedEx is committed to reducing its carbon footprint across every part of its operations, including building solar-powered ground facilities, optimizing flight planning routes, introducing new fuel efficient and lower emission aircraft, and even creating a building with a vegetated roof.

It's 20 by 20 program has the goal of reducing global aircraft emissions 20% by the year 2020. To date, FedEx has achieved a 13.8% reduction.
