Church giving 400 hundred families free food | Community Spirit
On Thursday, Dec. 9, at 5 p.m., international hunger relief organization Feed the Children will distribute a semi tractor-trailer full of food items to New Bethel Temple Church of God in Christ.
This distribution is made possible from funds donated by the sponsors and participants of the 2009 “Serving Up Hope” Tennis Tournament.
New Bethel Temple Church of God in Christ is a partner agency of Feed the Children and will pre-identify the 400 recipient families on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. during an "Increase Peace Rally" that will be held at New Bethel Temple Church, 3372 Park Ave. The boxes are designed to help a family for up to one week.
One out of every four children in Memphis is impoverished. That’s enough to fill the Pyramid Arena more than three and half times.
“We are extremely grateful to be the beneficiary of the Serving Up Hope tennis tournament for the past five years,” said Feed the Children spokesman Tony Sellars. “This will help put food on the table for families that otherwise might have gone without.”
This will be an event where people of different races, ethnicities, and cultures will come together to do something positive in the inner-city of Memphis. We need additional volunteers to help unload the truck on Thursday.
