Overnight temp a record for August 1, among the hottest ever

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Increasingly hot weather has set a record in Memphis.

The National Weather Service says the overnight minimum temperature at midnight Monday at Memphis International Airport was 82 degrees, breaking a record for the date of 80 set in 1980.

It was also the ninth-warmest overnight low ever for Memphis in records that date to 1872 and was the warmest overnight low since Aug. 24, 1982.

Are you an adult looking for a way to complete your high school diploma or

GED?  If the answer is yes, then don’t miss fall registration at Messick

Adult Center.

If you’re seeking a high school diploma and have at least 15 credits, you

can register for Adult High School on Tuesday, August third, from 10 a.m. –

3 p.m. and from 5 – 8 p.m.

If you’d like to get your GED, you can register for GED testing or classes

on August 19 and 20.

Ribbon cutting held for new look at Dobbs Ford at Wolfchase

Staff, board members and ambassadors from the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) gathered at Dobbs Ford at Wolfchase located at 7925 Stage Rd to celebrate a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the business.  Steve Nagel, General Manager, cut the ribbon in celebration of the new dealership façade and the upcoming renovation of the entire facility.

Mr. Nagel, who has been general manager at the dealership since 2005, stated that the renovations of the facility will help to establish Dobbs Ford at Wolfchase as the premier automotive retailer for the residents throughout the Mid-South.  “The staff at this dealership is a part of this community, and that is why we want to provide the best possible sales and service experience for the residents of this community.”

Hollywood Casino supports Responsible Gaming Education Week

On Monday, August 2, 2010 Hollywood Casino® Tunica will launch its week long “Bust the Slot Myths” educational campaign to support the American Gaming Association’s Responsible Gaming Education Week held August 2 – 6. 

This year’s American Gaming Association’s (AGA) theme, “Taking the Mystery Out of the Slot Machine,” will focus on educating casino employees and the public about how slot machines work and correcting some of the misconceptions about them. Understanding how casino games work is a key component of responsible gaming, and helping gaming employees learn more about how slot machines work is an important part of empowering them to educate casino patrons about what it means to keep it fun.

New Driver Service Center to open

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Tennessee Department of Safety will open a new Driver Service Center for reinstatement assistance at 2516 Mt. Moriah Road, Suite F 710 on Monday, August 2.

The purpose of the new location will be for the reinstatement of driving privileges.  No Driver's Licenses will be issued from this site at this time.

The new center's hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Once the Mt. Moriah location opens, reinstatement services will no longer be available at both the 6340 Summer Avenue or 3040 Walnut Grove Road locations.

Memphis Tigers announce exhibtion trip to Bahamas

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Memphis Tigers basketball team announced plans for a foreighn exhibition tour of the Bahamas from August 14 to 18.  This allows the Tigers to begin a 10-day practice schedule August 2.

“Per NCAA rules, basketball programs are allowed to take a foreign trip once every four years, and my staff and I feel this is a great opportunity for this team,” said head coach Josh Pastner. “We have such a young squad, and with the 10 extra practice days the NCAA allows for the trip, we hope the team grows and bonds together for the upcoming season."
