Coach resigns following abuse allegations

Memphis City Schools leaders said Devin Rutherford handed in his resignation Wednesday.

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - A White Station football coach resigned following allegations that he physically disciplined a player.

Memphis City Schools leaders said Devin Rutherford handed in his resignation Wednesday.

Rutherford led the Spartans for five seasons until his recent suspension.

MCS suspended Rutherford in early May with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

That was not the first time Rutherford was disciplined. Last August he and five of his players were suspended after an alleged hazing incident that led the district to forfeit the Spartans season opener.

According to the Commercial Appeal, Rutherford testified in the case of Clarence Mumford and acknowledged that he was paid to take two or three tests in 2004 for other teachers at Sherwood Middle School.

Web resources for researching docs, hospitals

You can research doctors and hospitals almost as easily as you can check contractors, lawyers and retailers.

Your state's department of health provides online resources for searching a doctor's education, hospital privileges and disciplinary history. State health departments also typically provide links to researching hospitals and nursing homes which operate in the state. Google your state's name with the words "health department" to find your state's site.

The federal General Services Administration recommends these sites for further research or statistics on medical facilities:

* The Agency for Health Care Research & Quality. GSA said this is a free online query system for national, regional and state health statistics.

* USA.gov. Ratings/reviews of health facilities in your area as well as by age group.
